Art is a journey of evolution, not just of expression. For emerging and established artists, the turning point in their careers often comes through unique programs and immersive experiences. One of such programs is art residencies. Therefore, at the Institute of Art Lagos, we believe that these residencies are a transformative pathway for artistic and professional growth.  That is why we opened this program to empower young artists and also enable experienced and professional artists to connect and have new experiences.

What Are Art Residencies?

Art residencies are structured programs where artists live and work outside of their usual environments. These programs are often offered by institutions like the Institute of Art Lagos. Art residencies provide space, time, and resources to develop new ideas, experiment with materials, collaborate with peers, and gain inspiration from different surroundings and cultures.  It is about artists changing environment, learning something new to improve themselves, connecting, belonging to a community and collaborating with other artists around the world.

Residencies can last from a few weeks to several months and may include mentorship, workshops, exhibitions, and networking events with curators, collectors, and fellow creatives.
